Over the years, the technology space has evolved with a primary focus on developed nations such as the United States of America, China, and so on. However, little attention has been paid to the rapid growth seen across the African continent. As a result, we embark on a journey to uncover the trends observed across African countries from 2011 to 2021 using the StackOverflow survey dataset. The following will be the primary areas of emphasis:
- Popular programming, scripting and markup languages in the continent
- Popular web frameworks
- Popular databases
- User demographics and finally
- Experience and compensation of the techies
The following are the top insights generated from the stackoverflow data in regards to the main areas of focus.
A tremendous growth in technology space was recorded over the years with the young population aged between 18 to 34 years taking the lead.
With countries in middle Africa having few participants in the survey, we would recommend additional studies targeted at establishing the market gap in demand and supply of tech talent in the region. Additionally, we would also recommend studies geared towards establishing the quality of tech talent in supply across all the regions in Africa and whether or not it meets the market demand for the technical skills. Companies should standardize salaries earned by females to match their male counterparts
